| (modo) Smoke alarm for mother in law ?
"Present for mother in law" A simple project for me to learn modo with - ran into a couple of problems trying to boolean the text in to the button so I tried to displace it (which came out very jagged ) so in the end it is just a bump map. Anyway the idea came from a comment read on a forum - "About a useful as a snooze button on a smoke alarm !". Last edited by are; 5th November 2007 at 20:29. |

| That's perfect!!!... I see you are getting along with Modo after all? If you're having problems with jaggy displacement, then perhaps your displacement map is too low resolution?shorty |

Thanks. Plodding along with modo, starting to get the hang of it after watching some tutorial videos (Dan Ablans) .Still not sure about action centres and falloffs but many of its features are starting to click. Even the shader tree, which I initially hated, is becoming almost usable ! ![]() I think the displacement problem is down to the sub-poly setting in the render shader tree.. I will play more and see if it helps - then ask questions and if all else fails I might even r.t.f.m. (but I doubt it.....) |

cool! dare i say you are starting to enjoy it now?It took me a little while to graspt the unusual shader tree. But once you've got it, you understand how cool it can be... Have you tried normal mapping? You might get much better results from normal mapping. Try using the beta for a program called "Crazybump". You can import a displacement map, then output a normal map very easily. Normal maps render as fast as bump maps, with super smooth quality like bumping, but it looks deep like real displacement! It's especially suited for details such as your logo where no edges are exposed as "faking" a displacement. Might be the perfect solution... and here is an exmple of a normal map applied in Modo, created from black and white texture in Crazy Bump. The normal map is only 100 x 100 pixels ...http://www.crazybump.com/ shorty Last edited by jbshorty; 5th November 2007 at 21:24. |
