[Hex-Zbrush-C5-PS] Cliff Dwelling

OK, I have decided to enter his months Gnomon Workshop challenge. it's called "Cliff Dwelling."
I don't know if I'll enter under 2D or 3D...it depends on how much post work I have to do. They usually end up with some pretty impressive entries, and this is my first one, so I've got a lot of work(fun) ahead

I think I will use the Tapui preset in C5 for a starting point for my terrain.

I've got a rough idea of how i want the dwelling to look. I'm thinking that the dwelling will be more of a "balcony" sticking out of a cliff, rather than the whole house hanging off of a cliff. I think the perspective will be looking out from a jungle

anyway here is my concept sketch we'll see where this goes.

Moving Right Along

Wow i may finish this tonight!

I tried placing the balconies on a terrain in C5 but could not get the look I was after. plus terrains seem so slow to work with.

time for a different approach
I did a tight render of one of the cliffs from the Tapui terrain2 preset in C5
then I modeled a low poly mesh that fit the type cliff I was looking for in Hex. Then in Zbrush I used the projection master and Zapplink to apply the Tapui rendering to the "front" face of the mesh, and proceeded to roughly sculpt the mesh to match the texture(kinda backwards I guess, but the texture was my reference).
So now I have just the little section of the terrain i want without the slowdown.

I am VERY happy so far... 3rd test render and I've already got the rough look and POV I wanted! Just need to add some extras, and fix a few things.

Very good work !! I like it !!

Interesting to see your workflow. And also interesting to see that the point of view in 3d has returned from your sketch.

Fantastic final render, and quite interesting to see how you managed it - the projectionmaster approach worked very well!

Just a question Rickei?

What version of Carr are you using and what version of zbrush? I have car 5pro and zbrush3.1 and of the two Carr5pro is easy to use and zbrush is like working in lightwave or blender too many options I have option overload with zbrush Oh by the way great job on the cliff scene It reminds me of the time machine cliff dwellings of the Eloi from the latest adaptation of HG Wells classic story The Time Machine.

Very nice, Mr. Rickei!

Not bad for all your stone-age tools
Really - nice render, modeling, perspective and that mysterious atmosphere.
Makes me want to "read the story" that goes with it. I can hear the jungle birds and the distant thump of drums... (need good sound effect here).

rickei, nice render and mysterious atmosphere!

Especially, I think the mist in the lower left of the screen gave this work outstanding effect.
