| So you want to work at Pixar.
I'm going to go over the creation of a rat from the new Pixar movie Ratatouille. This is the second movie from Brad Bird while at Pixar and he has done a wonderful job and I'd encourage anyone to see it. The character itself is not hard to model and beginners will be able to follow along fairly well. The rendering will be done in Cinema4d and XSI, both will be using the built in hair functions of both apps. It will be about two weeks and then I will post a screenshot walk-thru of the entire process. This will be located in the Sandbox section of the forum. I'll also post the model as shown in the attached after I find out if it is OK on the copyright side of things and if not I'll make another toon mouse that looks different but the same style. Does anyone know about these issues? Here is a quick render to see where I'm going with this. Last edited by Grendel; 4th July 2007 at 21:51. |

Thanks everyone, a fun little character. The render was in Carrara and I'm too busy for the next week to make any progress other than this or a quick hair in C4D. I'll be getting screencaps for all the steps and posting together in sequence. It's too bad Carrara doesn't have a good hair solution. |

Very cool. Will watch for the installments. Things are probably different now, but the Disney machine seemed like an assembly-line process. I think I've spent too many years going from scratch to finish to be that kind of "team" player... of course I know one person can't do all of the stuff. Just an old-school illustrator - probably a character defect on my part. |

Nate - Everybody in the large studios has to adopt the assembly line approch, there's just too much going on at the same time for the single guy or small team to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Behzad - No on the Carrara rigging, since I have to do the fur in other apps there is no point on rigging it in Carrara. |

Excellent job! I like the general shape. Would be interesting to see it animated.
