Tripod as H-G Wells

Hello,
A few months ago, I'd realized a 3D model : a tripod as H-G Wells them has discribe.
You can find it free here

I didn't able to animate my model
But at Rhode Island there is a nice guy , EricD. he took my model and now my tripod can walk ! It's like a miracle. Tank's a lot EricD.
I give you this model carrara with his authorization —> TripodBones

This tripod will serve for un short DV movie. The theme is the UFO in my town. I'll post some rushes with 3D (Hexagon/Carrara and DV vidéo). This movie will be realized for fun with friends.

Thank's EricD

PS : my apologize for my old school english langage

Here are a couple of tests I did to check the rigging:
Test 1
Test 2

I hope to see some of Thierry's animation soon.

Tripod as HG Wells? Your title may be confusing to many.

If I am correct, this MAY explain to others "An invader object following the theme of the great HG Wells movie, "War of the worlds" ."

Well done work. Look forward to more of your efforts.

Great, I just got 1 small comment, in the second test I could see it better, don't you think that the legs are to skinny around the base of the body? Seems kind of weak points. Just a comment.

It's not a movie, it's a book. The movie War of the Worlds is a Stephen Spielberg movie, yes there's an older one too, but most people will probably be more familiar with the Spielberg one.
An HG Well's War of the Worlds Tripod, would probably be simpler, and wouldn't exclude either novel, movies or the radio show.

That's true Sardtok. I think that's the Spielberg's movie is just a good entertainement and the real subject was the family. The Aliens' invasion is just a beautifull decoration.
I believe that's the first movie with a similar title (50th i believe)) was better. More in the spirit of the famous "blackout" by Orson Wells. The problem for the world was the fear about a war with the USSR. So the thème of the first movie was more dramatic and distressing. We had been afraid with the first movie and never with the spielberg's movies.
Beautifull story ou beautifull pictures ? That's a good question, isn't it ?

It's a very good book and it's funny that we still think the same way about an alien invasion even though Wells book was written in the late 1800's

what made it so popular was the live radio drama of the book, that Orson Welles did on Halloween, back in the 1930's. Everyone listening thought it as a real news cast and that the world was really being invaded...it caused lots of panic.
the original radio broadcast is available at iTunes
you can get the audio book as a FREE podcast at iTunes

thierry - nice model BTW

You beat me to it rickei. I heard a repeat of the radio play when I was young in the late 1930 or early 1940s. In Australia. I can still remember how scared I was.

The original book by HG Wells was written to denounce colonialism and to show the "civilized" world what it would be like to be invaded by an ovewhelming force that cared about the land's resources and eliminated the population that got in the way.

I think the Orson Wells radio adaptation in the 30's was faithful to that vision, and the 50's movie version got influenced by cold war fears.

Then, Spielberg tried to push it into the Hollywood mold, with a likeable hero and a nice resolution at the end. Great special effects but forgettable story.

Hello,
Some news about animation tripod :-)
That's my first animation in 3D. Also, it's not perfect because I learn. I try to create movements very simple. After, I hope to use the new editor in C5PRo at the timeline. Actualy each movement takes one second. I build like that and after I hope use the editor and the different keys for playing with the animation timing. Perhaps I'll found a "spirit" to move this tripod.

I'd like give a movement as an dangerous insect.

thierry,

This is looking very nice! I'm subscribing to this thread so please keep us posted on your progress with more sample clips. The real fun begins when you composite your first animation with your live footage.

Just a quick tip, if I may - since this will be a huge robot, keep this in mind when you work out your animation. You'll almost want to go for a slow-motion effect to help sell the larger scale. Spielberg's War Of The Worlds is really great reference material!

Looking forward to seeing more. Also, if you need the original War Of The Worlds model, check out www.scifi3d.com.

Thank's a lot ccirelli.
That's rights. It's a huge robot or convey (18 meters in height). A slowmotion will be better I think so when the tripod will be in a landscape. But I believe for short large plan with a quick movement (the head for exemple) will be more worrying.

I know scifi3d ! Excellent. Very good link for me.

Hello,
It's my firts try for a 3D animation in a video DV. This is the Town Hall oh my little town in the french south near Toulouse.
There are 5 videos layers and each others contains his own alpha channel. Not simple...
I want add behind the town hall UFO in the sky (or several). Before the tripod arrival a few birds (pigeons) will escape. That will be made in animated drawing. (2s no more). After i'd want create a 3D bird. It will walk on the rooth of the car at the foreground. This bird will fly to the camera. And if I can, I'll add a heat vibration with the lower part of the tripod.

Ok ! It's not a pixar film. :-) There are défaults. The foot are not locked for example. I dont know how I can do it in c5 pro. This movie is not a professional movie but a personal movie with friends. So fun first and pleasure to make a short SF movie :-)
