Looks good, I like the PS fur, looks better than 3D fur... ;)
And I like the mix between 2d and 3d...

Thanks, Wingnut and Sardtok.
I agree, the Photoshop fur it's a best option until Carrara came out with a really good hair plugin. And I like the mix of the techniques too.
Here'is another pose:
Thanks again, and sorry about my English...

Have you tried the WOW DCG plugin AnythingGrows for your hair?

Think you may get an even better result.

Thank you, guys. Your comments and suggestions are always well coming.

The problem with Anything Grows, btwr, is I can't bend the freaking strands. I try somenthig with the Surface Replicator, but Carrara's crashing when I render the scene. So, Photoshop's fur still a solution.

Here's another shot.

See ya!

you can bend them using a texture map. But 've never been able to get a predictable result using that method. Anyway, i like the "illustrated" look of your Photoshop fur, much more than if it were realistic fur... nice work!

Thanks for the comments, jbshorty! Since the ilustration was made for a childrens book, and not for animation, I'll keep the fake fur on this job.
I see some amazing works here on the Polyloop with Anything Grows, using the grayscale with texture map for the fur's lenght. I didn't know you can bend the strands using the same technique. I'll try it, thanks for the tip.
Bye!

You are very talented,Try to get some kids to look at the samples you have and see what facial expressions they give, see if they like it or not, if they smile or laugh. What is cute to us might be scary to children. Have that tested. I like it very much, but I think it is a little bit scary looking for kids. It all depends what role the monkey has in the story.

You absolutely right, behzad. My line of work is always target to the political cartoon (I've been working to the local press for almost 20 years, and you keep some "vicious" on the style). Sometimes "funny" for adults are "scary" for kids. The role of the Bugio Monkey in the story is not scary, but funny. The childrens can hate him some passages, but at the end of the story popup the question: can we judge someone for their appeareance? The plot talks about preconception and other things. If you remember "The Ugly Duck" tale you understand my point of view.
Thanks for the comments, I like very much your feedbacks, people. It's always a pleasure read some tips from so talented artists. Thank you so much!

good work on this picture.
i's a book, so i cant - we can't- make a real judgement on the whole illusrtrated story.
but your photoshop fur will always looks more real and fun for this kind of poject than with AG.

one thing anyway , the background looks realy a 2D painting.
may be , that'is your choice.
good work , again.

With AG the hairs can bend but you need to add strands and use the gravity factor, with means extra polys giving you a very heavy mesh
As Solt said, for a cartoon style PS is a better choice to me....
P.S. nice picture indeed

Thank you, Solt and Pete. I thin the background 2D is more easy and get more results on that kind of ilustration. A similar landscape in Carrara take hours of work and some crashes always happens to me when I put a lot of plants to render. Plus light, enviroment, DOF and other features to make a good image.
One more pic (that's the last, I promisse ), I put some foliage on the tree's branch using the Surface Replicator.

Thanks for the support! When the other characters are ready, I'll post here for your opinions.

Here's another character from the book. The main character, by the way:

See you later.
