CGSphere[Hexagon/XSI]

Finally had a little time at work for some fun, I've seen alot of good CGsphere posts here so I thought I'd turn one in. This is based off of the Faberge Egg "Lilly of the Valley". Modeling in Hexagon and render in XSI. I tried using Carrara first just because I'm faster with it but it started choking on the poly count so switched to XSI. I cannot overstate how much better it is with high poly counts, as I get more comfortable with it I will be using Carrara less and less.

Anywho, here is a clay render in xsi. If anyone can help I'm having a hard time getting the .xsi download file to load from CGsphere, any hints?

I encourage anyone wanting to participate to view the entries their, some are very impressive.

Thanks guys, I had been wanting to do a Faberge for awhile and this challenge was just the thing for it.

OK here is a render in Carrara, I had an extra level of smoothing on the flowers which made a 2 million poly difference . This is a closer view of the submitted version. I am still working on the XSI version.

This is another one for just a quick submission called Cupids Target. Model in Hex render in Carrara. This had little effort but has higher marks than the Faberge, go figure.

I asked the site owner if he could make a blind ratings system, not show software used until you actually cast your vote etc... I think the voting is pretty heavily skewed... We'll see what he says, I posted to dazcarrara@yahoogroups.com

It works on averages, so in the begining a 1 hurts alot until you get your vote count up. But that's hard to do when you get thrown in the middle somewhere. I would rather see a panel of thirty senior artists vote rather than everyone who can fill out a log-in.

Here is another quicky done in NURBS using MoI and render in Carrara. A version of Big Weld from the movie Robots.

Another entry, this one is my interpretation of Newton's Prison from a series of books by J. Gregory Keyes. He made them to imprison djinns and efreets to unwillingly harness their powers for use in inventions like flying ships and such. A great series of books if anyone is curious.

Model in Hex and render in Carrara.

Geez, Grendel... a bit pessimistic, no? (fine work, though)

Personally, I'd have put ICBMS in the bandolier... but that's another state of affairs...

behzad - I would'nt say that, I am still picking up little tricks and things all the time but for now I am comfortable enough with it to make what I see in my mind.

I am looking forward to Amapi 8 with alot of excitement. With the the same team that created Hex I am sure we will see a huge improvement in the poly side of it. I love Hexagon but I don't have much faith in it's future, but even as is it's the best poly modeler in my opinion.
