[quote=Grendel;113097]This is based off of the Faberge Egg "Lilly of the Valley". Modeling in Hexagon and render in XSI. I tried using Carrara first just because I'm faster with it but it started choking on the poly count so switched to XSI. I cannot overstate how much better it is with high poly counts, as I get more comfortable with it I will be using Carrara less and less.

Grendel,

I think your object looks very complex. Good work.

I have a question about XSI. I notice Carrara'a animation previews slow down with complex objects. Can XSI play animation previews of complex models with displament maps, rigged skeleton and morhping at a faster frame rate then Carrara? I am just curious.

medeamajic - I have not got into the animation side of XSI yet but the responsiveness of the preview for the lily sphere was greatly increased over carrara. I am now devoting alot of my time into switching to XSI, but Carrara is still handy in many ways for quick work but the XSI renderer (mental ray)is much faster/higher quality than carrara's.

Thanks for the info. I will have to try the demo of XSI after hearing so many Carrara users say good things about it. It must rock!
