Nicole Trager of Kyle XY Portrait.

Hey all,

Haven't posted here much , but I thought I would post a portrait I did of Nicole Trager's character from Kyle xy. I wanted to get better at painting in 2d in general and doing a character from one of my favorite tv shows gave me some inspiration to finish something.
I used a reference pic and hand drew the shape of the face and and features trying to get it as close as my reference image as possible. I then added a couple of layers to the file and then blocked out the skin and hair. I had the layer I was working on semi transparent so I could see my underlying sketch so I could accurately block out the skin and hair.
I then added the depth to the skin and proper color to the image. Once I was happy with the rough image I enlarged my image, I had up until this point only been working on a small image size.(300 x 600 pxls) . With the image much bigger now I finished off the image with the finer details .

Hope you like it.

I usually have better results just as you did here starting off by freehand and then scanning in to a paint program for finishing results, for some reason i personally like alot of working room of the canvas that i just can't get from starting from scratch in a paint program...... Job well done Mike .

Hey Michael,

Having lots of space when drawing or sketching inside a paint program was a big problem for me too. I did find that sketching on a small image size that fits easily on the monitor , my previous problems sketching on the computer mostly went away.
Thanks for the comments .
