Circuit Tattoo Girl

It's been a long time since I managed to finish anything and post to polyloop. I started this during Christmas 2006 and only just finished it

At the time I was reading a book where the characters had these circuits 'tattooed' into their skin. I wanted to try and do a picture of something similar.

Done in Painter 9.5 and Photoshop CS2.

Brilliant. As a once painter I really think I should have stayed with the 2D apps! But I don't ever think I would have done as well as you.

(I have Corel Painter IX as well as PhotoshopCS3--what a lot of unused resources!))

Thanks for the great comments everyone!

I'm just glad to get some time to finish this - I've had so much to do in my day job, over the last year or so, that everything else just ground to a halt!

JB; I like to learn new stuff and 3D was the next step. I didn't realize how big a step until I started

Fantastic form, and the shadows work very well ! Was this straight on Painter work or multiple layers ?

Multiple layers. I always like to work in layers. One of the great benefits of digital IMHO

Here's the recipe:

Take a girl based on a photo found in a magazine. Sketch her in and start painting the skin on a new layer. Add eyebrows and lashes on a second layer. Sketch out a few hair styles, pick one and paint hair (colored black) on a separate layer. delete sketch layer and create background using gradient tool. Decide hair isn't working, delete layer and paint again. Repeat until happy with hair.

Once all that is done pop into Photoshop for a bit of color correction. Then back into Painter for some touch up and some fixes. Add eye make-up and some purple touches in the shadows, to your own taste. Save out as a PSD and leave to mature for a year whilst day job takes over

Come back after a year and try to figure out a way to show circuit type tattoos that don't look really naff. Try a few ideas out then leave to simmer for a few more months.

Try again; creating main shapes using Photoshop's pen tool. Experiment for ages until find a style that works. Refine the shapes until they fit the curve of the girl. Add wires and terminals by hand on another layer using same style. Erase and re-paint until satisfied.

Decide that black hair is not quite right so adjust the hair layer using curves until great shade of red is achieved.

Flatten image and blend any layer overlaps as necessary using smudge tool. Save as master PSD file. Scale, add logo and JPG compress to a size that is suitable for web upload.

Upload to polyloop. Finished

Looks good, Mr. A.
Flat goes with the style and period look of hair, etc. Kinda 60's-ish or 50s...
Interesting 2-tats.
