| Dude in a dilemma
"Lookin' Up" is the all-time most popular greeting card I've done over the course of 27 years. Something about it seems to click with folks, it just keeps on keeping-on like that energizer battery ad with the rabbit beating a drum. It has been on shirts, magnets, greeting cards, coffee mugs and note pads. It first came out in '95, and the publisher's catalog that just came out ran it as a full page image. Go figure ? |

Thanks, Brian. As for the drawing ability... just a lifetime of practice and relentless drive (sometimes to the detriment of a real life, mostly out of fear of having to work for a living ) Actually it has involved many many nights of burning the midnight oil... I guess it is work, but you gotta love it.The imagination?... A mix of insanity + being an only child entertaining himself + growing up on a farm and great uncles with outlandish stories + Mad Magazine = compulsive doodler. "Looking Up" was originally born as a sketch on a napkin while engaged in something incredibly boring. This habit drove some of my teachers to total exasperation. |

Oh, c'mon, this is such a good one! I think the scene is hilirious, but somehow we also can relate to that kind of feeling: doing something that you should not do, still do, and run in more than a few problems..... Or like being in a situation where not just one thing goes wrong, but several at once. I think that that is what it makes it so strong. And above all, real artwork (made with knowledge, care and passion) is timeless as well. Oh, I like the expression on this man face! Jacqueline |
