| Doodlin' Dude ![]() | A few miscellaneous doodlin's done with Painter and just a bit of help with PhotoShop. Contrary to the expectations of most art directors (I've been there and done that) I like to work in various styles... more fun! - - - Oh yeah... so's I don't get in deep doo with the publishers, I'm required to say that these are all copyright protected ![]() ![]() Last edited by Nate Owens : 18th December 2007 at 06:00. |

| Doodlin' Dude ![]() | I have an old version of painter (9)... although I believe most of this stuff was done with even an older one. My PhotoShop is version 7... I don't know what "PD Pro" is.. (?) Basically, I just do what I did with oils and watercolors... I use tint more than watercolor brush. I think it is mostly the eye, or as some say, it is the painter and not the brush (tool, computer, software, whatever). You can look here to see some of my non-computer work mostly pre-1990. That is probably more true with the paint and draw apps than with the 3D apps. Those force you to be knowledgeable of the specific tools, methods. Slinging paint is slinging paint - be it computer or conventional... I don't think the computer makes it any easier at all... Except for the cleanup and the mixing of paint... and you can get away with all sorts of stuff like mixing watercolors and oils - theoretically - (which would be a real trick with conventional paint.) I've been slinging paint for over 40 years, but I don't feel qualified to do any tutorials - sometimes I do something about the way I do what I do. --- Like Bwtr says, maybe those awesome artists at CGtalk can do the tutorials - I don't have those programs he mentions (what is "PD pro?") --- - - - My CGtalk portfolio - - - Last edited by Nate Owens : 18th December 2007 at 05:53. |

| Brian ![]() | http://www.thebest3d.com/ Have a trial download of PD Pro, or buy at least the PD Particles. Look at all the tute stuff etc. Really clever apps and great good fun to use. |

Try to see what you can find here = PixelAlley.com Also, WetCanvas has some Painter things I believe. @ Bwtr - It's truly amazing... whatever software is being discussed, you have some other app to tell about! A world of knowledge. Thanks.

| Doodlin' Dude ![]() | I posted a thumbnail of this art before, but it occurred to me that it has a tale behind it that may be of interest, as well as some fine points about art and legal stuff..... When Sadam was hiding out, some editor had an idea to do a sort of puzzle thing where Sadam was hidden on the page. I think the idea stinks (and did at the time I did the art), but it was a fun opportunity to doodle some 'celebrities.' There was very little time to do the art, so I was never too happy with the results. Some you just put in the "I'm glad that's over" column and move on to the next crisis. This is a case where doing art of celebreties is allowed under the first ammendment - falls in the category of "parody" - like editorial cartoons and the stuff you see in Mad Magazine (haven't looked at one of those in ages). - - as opposed to making pictures of the celebrities to sell without their consent (and a piece of the pie) when you are profiting on their celebrity status it is different than editorial spoofing. I got off the hook years ago when I did this 'toon thing about the "Spiel of Fortune" - a spoof on the "Wheel of Fortune" tv game show. Got letters from lawyers, but nothing happened. When Walt Disney was buying up huge hunks of Florida real estate to build Disney World, I did an editorial cartoon of Mickey Mouse with a bib eating up chunks of the state of Florida. Nothing happened. A neighboring child care center painted Disney characters on their building and got sued. Editorial freedom vs. profiting on the characters. - Don't know just why it works that way, but seems to be the case. ![]() Last edited by Nate Owens : 22nd December 2007 at 06:40. |

| Respect the Dawg! ![]() | Thats a very good likeness of Strom. I knew him well He and my grandpa were fishin buddies. Strom used to stay in our river shack when he needed to "get away". I've went fishing and duck hunting with him, on many occasions. Regardless of his political life, he was a good man...and a whole lot smarter than people gave him credit for(he talked southern, so he must be stupid) |

![]() Didn't know much about Strom, except the usually wrong, twisted and biased news coverage... he seems to have drawn a lot of flack, so he must have been controversial - better than being a non-entity... ![]()
