first attempt to matte painting

Hi folks... I got the d'artiste book about matte painting and here is my first try to do a picture in that way. What do you think about it?

Oh no... it's mainly made of different photographs and therefore only little painting. I did it like one of the tutorials in the book showed.

nice!
First attempt???
I like your © notice at the bottom.

only 2 things I would crit.
1) I would think that the lighthouse would shed more light onto the topmost part of the rocks...maybe some pale yellow highlights there and in the foreground water too

2) not really sure what the little red light on the horizon is...a boat???...another lighthouse???...Mars???

good work

Thank you!
1) Good Idea...
2) It is supposed to be an other light house far far away.

3) Does anyone have an idea on how to get a more realistic result on that light house (the one in the front)?

3) Darken it...especially the hard shadow/highlight area...the light coming from the lighthouse would blind you to the details of the lighthouse itself, and I don't think the moonlight would be that strong. I would think that all you would see is the light and the the effects of that light. see attachment

I would also play with putting a beam of light coming from both lighthouses...especially the distant one.

it's a nice image already, so just suggestions.

Yes, I agree with rickei about the light from the near light house not being bright enough. I just stuck my head out of the window and looked at my local light house, although it has a lens it is so bright that you wouldn't see the detail of the lamp as in yours. (shame nice model?) I also think you should increase the light ray intensity you already have on the near one as well.

I bet the diver had a tummy ache when he hit the water unless he straightened up in time.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try to use it and improve/correct the things you mentioned on the pic.
@redsqare: yeah, he'll have a bad tummy ache!

I think it is incredible work. Would love to learn that as well (along with 3D modeling, digital art, improving photography..........)
Are the tutorials good in that book?

Thanks!
I'm sad to say that I actually had nearly no time to work on that picture any more.
I think the tutorials in that book are really great! But there are also lots of free tutorials on the internet, which are great, too. So it is also worth searching on the net.

Thanks, Just!
I try to keep myself from buying more books and magazines at the moment... Thank heavens for the internet with all the free material!
