I'm working my way through the tutorials. I found that the wmd one that comes with modo, although slightly out of date, taught me a lot. I did the modo in focus series with the demo and I've also purchased the new concept car and cartoon kid.
I would be interested to know if you think the Dan Ablan book is worth it. Keep us posted.
