Yes, I use Shade a lot for rendering. However, as it does not support displacement maps on polygon meshes, I use Lightwave for that (and thingies like camera baking, etc). If I want to have a quiet weekend and not experiment which shadow setting, caustics, reflections, and so on, I render with Maxwell, and let the computer alone for the weekend.
As to Vue.
Yes I have used it for situations where trees and folliage are the main or a very important part of the scene. Vue is wonderful for landscape architecture, parks, gardens, etc. There is a Learning Edition of Vue, I think, you should download it and give it a try.

Thank you! I like the flag image too. It turned out better than I thought it would. As to the training facility, I had to do those images in two days from a drawing plan that could have been a napkin sketch. I was surprised at how well it looked in the end. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons I did the night renders was so it was not so apparent that there were almost no texturing, the glass buildings are completely empty, and as when you lower reflection bounces and there are partial reflections (or however you call it) than need more rays, it gets rendered to black, you wouldn't see that in the renders. The other reason is that the training facilities are for the Federal Electricity Commision of Mexico, so lighting is part of their pride (or so my client explained to me).
