Nate,
On Nvidia card and Building a dream Machine..
I went with an Nvidia 8800 GTS 640mb Card. Not cheap but works really nice. There is a Nvidia GT that is less and can keep up pretty good.
On the board that you purchase, make sure the Bios and chipset will upgrade to processor you are looking to get or move to in keeping that dream machine alive.
I have a Tyan 2696 with 2 - 5130 dual core Intel CPUs. I plan to upgrade this platform to dual quad core Intel chips in the near future but am limited to the 5365 3.0 chips. Even though there will be 771 CPU's in future Intel quad Cores, there was a change in the chipset that will limit my getting to use these chips.
ANother killer feature is using SAS drives for better read/write to hard drives and scratch files.
Hope this helps,
joe t
