Looking good so far, are! Very nice and clean modeling on this chair. But the chair materials look a bit shiny to me. Experiment with some of these ideas:
  • use blurry reflections at high sampling rate (maybe 200 rays), with roughness set to about 30% or 40%
  • Make instance of the diffuse layers, and set them to specular amount. then adjust their opacity to taste. I think this will create a more natural shiny surface which follows the grain of the wood, instead of being reflective all over.
  • Also it looks like you're using "spread" from a directional light source. You might need to turn up the samples to remove the noise. Or maybe try using an area light to get a more natural soft effect. Or use a luminous polygon with GI turned on...
Look under the "Mesh Edit" tab for all the cutting tools. Or just press "C" for the shortcut to the Edge Slice tool...
