Forums all across the Internet in every field or interest are maybe 50/50 productive (question/answer) type stuff and wandering discussions and wild speculations and off-topic stuff. Everyone has opinions and expressing them helps people learn about the software and community. In addition it's a good way to get to know each other too. I'd rather see these wandering off-topic discussions than the old days of bashing, extreme arguments, foul manners and so forth. I checked out that forum on Modo and it has something like 5 posts, which tells me it wasn't designed to be taken seriously. It's more of a reminder to people that's there's a place to take arguments and that the main forum is a place to say what's on your mind, but to play nice and be fair and open minded about people's views, opinions, beliefs etc..
My eyes glaze over too and sometimes even at my own posts, but it is what it is and we learn from own experience as well as the experience of others.
I think this forum is one of the best 3D forums around with some of the best people, personalities and skills and to be honest; I'd be bored stiff if it were all about poly's and pixels only and I get a kick out of reading people's views, even if they're goofy. There's no rule saying people have to post or subscribe to any thread so when you see one that makes your eyes glaze over, my advice is just to sit on your hands, don't respond and it will go away soon enough.
