Is Hex. weak compared to Modo when it comes to modeling?
Im only interested in modeling, not rendering!
You will get lots of opinions about this...
Here's mine.
Don't be bamboozled by pricing.
I had Modo.
I use Hexagon for most of my modeling.

It is a matter of what you need and what you are comfy with.
My opinion is that Modo required a lot of dancing around to get where I wanted to go, Hex seemed to do it in a more straight forward way. I also have Mudbox, Silo, Blender and a few others that are gathering dust.

As an illustrator working against deadlines, I find that Hexagon for me is a slam-dunk proposition that chugs right along.
I recommend that you check some of the Hexagon threads in this forum, paying particular attention to the work of Thomas... as one of the development team for the original Hexagon, he knows the software.
Also check some of the web sites of some of the artists you see in this forum and others who are using Hexagon.

Download the demo and give it a run.
Do the same for other programs.

I did recently buy and am learning ZBrush, but I don't feel it replaces Hexagon.
For sculpting the model, adding extremely fine detail and 3D painting that actually works (I hate messing with uvs and unwrapping, etc.) Z is truly incredible. To build the base model, Hex is my choice.

I like and use other 3D software, but Hex is one of my favorite tools.
I do rendering and composition in Carrara.... sure there are other more costly software programs, but I don't plan to do any Speilburg productions, so most of them carry a lot of baggage I can't use.

(Ok, DAZ... where's my nickel commission? )
