I learned to model in Amapi 6, Amapi D7 was better to work with. Hexagon 1 is a great poly modeler, pretty easy to use after Amapi, some new and better tools, no swiping to tire out your hand. I think Hex 2.2 is a really good product although there seems to be a bug if you are trying to do Poser morphs. I don't, so it doesn't affect me. Some people seem to have problems, but I think if you have a strong computer, a good video card, and you model in a logical straightforward manner, Hexagon will do really well for you. Most of the problems are from people trying to take shortcuts and force the program to do things it wasn't designed to do.
