As a former software programmer, I know it is a fairly routine thing for developers to use an agreed on "standard platform" for most of the initial development.
During usability tests, they branch out and alpha test on legacy and contemporary hardware and operating systems. The beta phase then helps identify any bugs that were not accounted for... "hopefully". Then the software goes gold.
This way, the program in question will be compatible with the intended range of available consumer rigs.
All I am interested in is the specs of the inital platform that the first plemnary development was done on if there was a "standard platform". If not that would be good to know too.
