perhaps you sould keep your eye out for Carrara 6. The modeling room seems to be "beefed up" quite a bit. And the screengrabs look quite similar to Hex. I'm sure it won't do everything that Hex can do, but it seems they've put some of Hex's ideas in there. And Carrara is much more stable...
