Jigsaw Puzzle in Carrara

This is a simple way to make a jigsaw puzzle in Carrara.

This tutorial is for users who already know the basic of Carrara and the vertex modeller.

Open a new document.
Create a new vertex object.

Insert a grid, and place it in the center off the workplace.

Start to make the layout off the hole completed jigsaw.

When using subdivision or smoothing :
Create enough polygons and lines so the corners will be crisp and clear.
Othervise this might happends.

Select the jigsaw and open the UV mapper.
Go into projection, select box, and cover all. And press OK.

If your jigsaw is a rectangel(or other shapes) you might have to tweak the UV map a litle, using the tools provided by the UV mapper.

In the assembleroom select your newly created object and duplicate it, as many times as you have pieces in the puzzle.

Open each new vertexobject, and make sure you select: create a new master.

Now it's time to delete polygons.

At the end you have one of the pieces of the puzzle.

If you accidentaly delete to much, you might have to start over, from a fresh duplicate master.
Editing or adding the polygons might mesh up the UV map.

When this is done its time to ad some shape to the piece.

Select the piece an add thickness. Again make sure you have enough polygons to make the edges crisp and clear.

Now for texturing.

Select the top off the piece, where the picture is supposed to be, and create a new shading domain.

You now have a piece off the puzzle.

Do this for all the pieces in the puzzle.

To put the picture on the puzzle.

Open/create the shader for the pieces.

Top shader as a layer list.
The first basic layer will be the wooden part of the puzzle.
The next basic layer will be the picture.
Since all the pieces share the same UV map, you just use a texture map as color.

Then at the end make sure all the pieces share the same shader and your done....
