Hi Nate, incorrect punctuation on my behalf - I have LW & XSI, >MOI and Amapi 8 looks good< - that's what I meant...
I'm still evaluating Modo and I do like the familiarity (coming from LW) along with the improved workflow and smartness on how things are laid out; you can find stuff where you'd expect it.
I'm just really not too keen on dropping $700 on yet another modeler, even with the 3D Garage training thrown in as incentive.
If I can create my models way faster using MOI or Amapi and then get those successfully imported into LW or XSI I'd be better off that way than getting Modo and still looking at MOI or Amapi again later (I'd prolly opt not to buy anything else after a Modo purchase.)
So I'm really in a quandry - one thing I don't like is Modo doesn't run on my new Vista laptop - granted we all know Vista is a dog about right now, but it sux that I got my ZBrush3, XSI and LW all on it but I have to go back to my old (hott & heavy) laptop just to play 'round with Modo...
The one thing that really sticks me at times about Modo is it feels like when they left Newtek, they had burned themselves a
CD with all the LW source code, stuck it into their pockets and walked out - and then started working from there.
I mean now their "time enabled" stuff just happens to support MDD files (surprise, surprise), LW Morphs, etc.
Granted this is good for LW users and all but I feel Newtek should do the same; they should take all the
good modeling stuff from Modo and put it into Modeler!
Only time will tell - I think I'ma skip Modo (yet again) - it's harder now cause I've actually USED the demo this time and have become somewhat proficient using the package.
Perhaps LW 9.5 or 10.x will get modeler back on track (LWCAD makes Modeler sweet enough for now) and perhaps Softimage will also come out with some additional modeling sweetness also - only time will tell...
