Just copy the command history of the action you take to draw a sphere and make it a shortcut. Or even add a button to the interface for the tool, or a rollover in a pie menu.
Lol. You've just confirmed what I was saying. Too many clicks for such a simple task, not to mention using both hands. In most applications all you do is select the sphere icon, then click and drag with your mouse. That's the time you decide whether to do some editing or not. In Modo it's the reverse. I don't want to harp on this small thing incessantly. It just makes the impression that in some cases their idea of ease of use is out of whack. Like I said, coming from LW, which is regarded as the commercial version of Blender, you'd think that they'll adapt something simpler the next time around. But no, they have to insist that theirs is cool. I've lurked in Lux forums as early as 101 when the mouse button wheel was practically useless. It took an insistent poster to convince them that it had to function as a zooming tool like most graphics applications do.
