The faulty OBJ import looks to be a bug that was introduced with the 6.1 update. You can read it In Daz's Bryce forum.
I have not had any problems importing OBJ's with 6.0. JH, it is strange that you do. After all that format is the most recommended interchange format.
I really like it because Hexagon's OBJ exports render pure and beautiful in Bryce's Default wireframe mode. They are really easy to read with your eyes. Other formats bring along and show excess geometry. They just have to clean up the mistakes they made in 6.1 update.
bwtr, in a way I agree with you, but IMO the reason why Bryce is a worthy entry level 3D app is because the results come really easy with it. Throw in a box, apply a ready-made metal/glass shader and render. The result is very convincing for a beginner and he did not have to set any lights or render parameters for the metal/glass to look right. Also the disliked GUI benefits beginners. Only one viewport, easily understandable object controls and those eyecandy tool palette icons etc. It is like Notepad at first, nothing too much or too complicated, but unlike Notepad, it grows with you offering those Deep 'this-and-that' Editors, hidden expert shortcuts and a whole lot more.
It is not perfect, but good enough for many - and the price is low. There has got to be something mystical about Bryce to have survived after all the changes and hard times it has gone through. And that applies to Carrara as well! Proves they are good apps.
Med, them getting Carrara 6 out is taking longer that I expected too. For me it is still bearable though. Think of Silo 2? That is taking painfully long!
