Blender has a non-standard, very unintuitive interface. Although I use it, I don't go around recommending it. So, get ready for a big chunk of your time if you want to learn it. The previous versions of Blender has 2 main modes: object and edit modes. They added sculp mode in the latest release. Since I'm not much into sculpting, I can't say anything about it except that some folks have produced
impressive images with it.
Like in the last version 2.42, where the changes were inspired by the
Elephants Dream project, this time around the other additions were due to the requests of the folks creating
Plumiferos.
For the next release, I think they will concentrate on fixing some UI inconsistencies or add some enhancements like icons in customisable toolbars, shortcut keys, etc . Let's just see.
BTW, Tony Mullen's book,
Introducing Character Animation with Blender, has come out. I'll be buying it in a local bookshop if it's available. And I'm waiting for the next Blender Handbook which is being developed by the Blender Foundation led by
Roland Hess.
