Thomas, thanks for a great resource for 3d-heads like me - I've just bought Hexagon and Carrara and thus dicovered polyloop and it has been real boon.
Grendel - great tutorial, this has really got me going with Hexagon.
I have followed the steps rigourosly until about half way through (the eye on the back) and then I have branched off my own way, but making sure I tried all the tools and techniques you put in the rest of the tutorial.
See attached pic for where I'm at right now - lots more detailing to go, tho' I might start again, this time trying to model my actual camera.
One question for you, if you don't mind - is there any reason why I shouldn't use the built in smoothing fine-tuning tools to get hard edges (the 'breaks' tool), instead of creating extra polygons?
If anyone else is wondering about getting going with Hexagon, here's what worked for me:
1) Read chapters II-VI in the manual
2) Played about a bit
3) Followed first two tutorials (space cow and carafe)
4) Played about some more - learnt to incremental save A LOT
5) Followed this tutorial
6)
I do have quite a lot of experience with 3d apps, but haven't done an awful lot of modelling beyond basic stuff, so this really helped me.
Thanks again to Thomas and Grendel!
