I'll second that - I've been keeping an eye on Cinema 4D and Lightwave (leaning towards C4D). You know, JUST in case. Since I work in education, I'm eligible for some pretty hefty discounts, keeping both these apps in my price range as a "serious hobbyist" (whatever that is, hehe).
But Carrara has everything need I need at the moment, and from what I understand Carrara's same development team is still at the wheel (a good thing). Let's just hope upper-management doesn't f*** it all up.
Just kidding.
I'll remain optimistic until Daz gives me a reason not to. Now that they have a really nice 3D package, perhaps they'll take care of it from here on out. I am still VERY grateful for the Mac Universal Binary version that they released.
