I would add that shaded icons seem slower to load, thus take some memory resources that would have been used for other purpose.

Actually, I do the same thing in Windows XP. It is adjusted for best performance. Meaning, all icons are unshaded, shadows and animation effects are turned off completely. I don't even use a wallpaper background for my desktop. It's completely blank.

I favor iconified interfaces. (No, not the TrueSpace kind.) They look friendlier: Hexagon, Carrara, Vue, CAD apps, Solid modelers, Rhino, etc. Textual interfaces really turns me off: Silo, Lightwave, XSI, Blender (which is my main app, ironically.)

Thomas, now that you're no longer part of the Carrara team, who do you think will design C6's UI?
